The first biblical book of Samuel depicts David, a shepherd and youngest son of Jesse. He rises to fame as a musician and by killing the giant Goliath. He later becomes a favorite of King Saul and a close friend of his son Jonathan. Worried that David is trying to claim his throne, Saul turns on David but is later killed in battle. After the death of Saul, David is anointed as King. He conquers Jerusalem, takes the Ark of the Covenant, and becomes one of the most faithful, powerful King to reign.
