Jacob And Esau| Read The Scripture: Genesis 25-50 (KJV)
Jacob and Esau were the twin sons of Isaac and Rebekah and the first mentioned in the Bible. They grew up very differently. Jacob was “a quiet man, staying among the tents” and his mother’s favorite. Esau was “a skillful hunter, a man of the open country” and his father’s favorite. One day, Esau returned from hunting and desired some of the lentil stew that Jacob was cooking. Jacob offered to give his brother some stew in exchange for his birthright—the special honor that Esau possessed as the older son, which gave him the right to his father’s inheritance.
When the time came for Isaac to bestow his blessing on his sons, Jacob and his mother plotted to deceive Isaac into blessing Jacob in Esau’s place to Isaac found that his blessing had been given to Jacob, he threatened to kill his brother, Jacob fled to live with his Uncle Laban out of fear of Esau. It was there the he met his future wives, Leah and Rachel. After working for Laban, Jacob himself was very tricky, just like he tricked his father. He had to wait seven years to marry the woman he loved. God later called him to return to his homeland.
On the way back to meet Esau and ask for forgiveness, he had a dream, in which he struggled with God. During the dream, God changed his name to Israel.
Years later, the two brothers met and were reconciled and Jacob's twelve sons became the twelve tribes of Israel.
